Absenteeism is not only an indicator of illness in many cases, but also of job dissatisfaction; therefore, this problem should be addressed by occupational health services, personnel administration areas, workers and employees.
The aim of this study is to characterize absenteeism in workers of the National Directorate of the Armed Forces during 2011.
A descriptive, retrospective study of absenteeism and its temporal distribution, according to sex, occupation and causes, was carried out.
It was observed that during 2011 a total of 3114 certifications for illness were registered in workers dependent on the D.N.S.FF.AA.
The epidemiological behavior of this absenteeism showed a seasonal pattern with a predominance in the winter months, with respiratory pathology being identified as the main cause.
Most of the cases recorded corresponded to women.
In terms of occupation, the highest proportion was recorded among nursing personnel. Work absenteeism is a serious problem for all labor organizations with a direct impact on management.
