Abstract

The clinical case of a female patient is described, who presented loss of sensitivity in a region of the lower lip, coinciding with the area where tissue was taken for biopsy, in order to diagnose Sjögren's Syndrome, because the patient had Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. To assess the degree of sensory perception, the patient was touched with a resin adhesive applicator or microbrush and a visual analog scale was used, where 0 corresponded to anesthesia and 10 to normal sensitivity. The patient rated her sensitivity in that area as 5. The presumptive diagnosis was axonotmesis of the left inferior alveolar nerve in its terminal branch, producing paresthesia. Four sessions of low intensity light therapy were performed, which is a non-invasive and effective therapy in the treatment of post-surgical nerve lesions, easily accepted by the patient and capable of improving his quality of life. DMC Therapy EC diode laser equipment was used, achieving an improvement in the sensitivity of the affected area, rating it as 9 on the visual analog scale.
