Carlos Alfredo Escande García was born in the town of Soca, department of Canelones on April 15, 1919, son of Alfredo Escande and Sara García was an outstanding Uruguayan pediatrician.
He registered his degree as a surgeon from the Faculty of Medicine of Montevideo at the Ministry of Public Health on October 20, 1947.
He married Laura Petrona Saldaña in 1948 and had four children, Alfredo, Laura, Ana María and Carlos.
Early oriented to children's medicine, he occupied all the teaching positions in the Pediatrics Institute of the School of Medicine. He started at the old Pedro Visca Hospital and after 1953 at the Pereira Rossell Hospital accompanying the pediatrics professor Euclides Peluffo. He was Head of Pediatric Clinic (1950), Assistant (1952), Associate Professor (Associate Professor, 1959). He was unable to reach the highest rank, Professor Director of the Clinic, when his life was cut short at the age of 54.
"He died in full intellectual maturity and youth of spirit" said Professor of Pediatrics Daniel Fonseca.
