Abstract

The aim of this work is to protocolize a rehabilitation program after surgical treatment of anterior cruciate ligament injuries of the knee, implemented in the facilities of the Sports Medicine Service of the Central Hospital of the Armed Forces.
The re-education process has to be based on scientific evidence in each of the different elements that compose it. The current accelerated protocols are based on a period of cooling and preoperative rehabilitation with the aim of achieving an adequate articular and muscular balance. Postoperative reeducation will begin early, with good pain control, seeking rapid recovery of joint balance, full loading and intensive muscle strengthening initially in closed chain and from the sixth week onwards in open kinetic chain, together with a proprioceptive neuromuscular reeducation program. Compliance with these premises will minimize complications (arthrofibrosis, patellar syndromes and algodystrophy) withthese premises will minimize complications (arthrofibrosis, patellar syndromes and algodystrophy) with the objective of returning to sports practice at the same pre-injury level.sports practice at the same pre-injury level.
